As a person who supports strict gun control in a civilized society I look upon this story as an excellent example of how a non-firearm alternative reduced this to a simple tort, rectifiable in the courts.

If the police here had used a firearm the consequences would be far more serious and long lasting for both the suspect and the police.

It is unfortuate that in today’s society that police must carry guns to do their job. 

The truth is that the NRA is correct as far as they go. “If guns are criminalized then only criminals will have guns”. The actual truth is closer to “If guns are controlled, then it would be clear that uncontrolled guns are held by criminals”. Report them and help us all, including those who use guns correctly, to stay safe. Yes Virginia…..even criminals would prefer to be safe.

The knee jerk reaction is “protect our constitutional right to keep and bear arms”. The fact is that in a civilized society controls are instituted to level the playing field.

Those of us who are anti-gun and gun proponents have no greater or lesser rights.

Many people talk a good game about “constitutional rights” but interpret that to mean THEIR rights. The ultimate test to pass constitutional muster may very well be the golden rule test; would I have others take this action, or any similar action, against me as I am committing against them?

Losing Wars

War is evil.

It is especially evil if you’re the loser.

The US is getting onto a bad habit.

We lost in Korea. We lost in Vietnam. We’re losing money and lives in Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa, and numerous other garden spots of Democratic experimentation.

Come to think of it. If you count payments out of our pocket after we WON a war…..we still lost.

We lost the War on Poverty.

We lost the War on Illiteracy.

We lost the War on Drugs.

We lost the War on Crime.

We lost the War on Terror

We lost the War on Constitutional Guarantees.

We lost the War on Energy Independence.

We lost the War on Economic Disparity.

We lost the War on Capitalism. (On this one they couldn’t beat us so they joined us and now denounce and destroy it from within.)

We’re under attack by a plethora of radical believers, many here in our own country. The communists, fascists, dictators, religious zealots, and fools are dancing around the flames of disaster, fiddles in hand, as America sinks into oblivion.

Rome took about 700 years to fall. Do you think we can survive even one century more at this rate?

Probably not. We are rapidly losing the one War that ends all Wars. The Earth’s environment is a harsh opponent.

The word is out in the Universe. If you want to win just attack the US.

The freakazoids want the government to protect them from all ills. Personal responsibility is a thing of the past.
Vote seeking, political trash, accommodate them by legislating criminal penalties for non-violent torts. Those penalties are oppressive and damaging to individuals, families, communities, and society as a whole.
What chance has anybody to defend against accusations when the unlimited resources of the State are brought down on one side of a dispute? Monetary loss is only the beginning. They then face the compounding of penalties where smug, self-righteous gravy lappers, chortle gleefully while ruining yet more lives with outrageous sentences. If the complainants and the representatives of the State were at risk to suffer the same penalties as the accused there would be a sudden dearth of cases.
All District Attorneys offices and FAR too many judges are just political hacks pandering to mob rule to retain their seat on the gravy train. Wake up dummies!! Mob rule is not a substitute for Democracy.
Maybe more of those idiots should take their oath and duty to uphold, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States seriously. A dictionary might help them comprehend “inalienable”.
Article three of the Constitution establishes the courts as the primary foil and ultimate guardian against the tyranny of the majority. Legislating from the bench has become a new era code for “Damn the Constitution” by crooked politicians who don’t want to be bothered by anything that doesn’t get them another ride on the freebie express.
The ultimate minority in this country is the individual. ANY action taken against one MUST be an action against all.
